Thanksgiving 2009: Paula Deen's Mac and Cheese

Paula Deen could wipe the floor with Alton Brown's Mac and Cheese. This was quite possibly the best Mac and Cheese I have ever eaten, much less prepared. The kids have asked me to make it part of our regular meal rotation.

Now having said that, I don't think this is very good for you. Having cooked several of her recipes, I am pretty sure Paula puts a little bacon fat and butter in her morning OJ for taste. Nuthin' she makes is remotely healthy for you. But it is good stuff!

The Lady's Cheesy Mac
  • 4 cups cooked elbow macaroni, drained
  • 2 cups grated Cheddar (at least half sharp)
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 4 tablespoons butter, cut into pieces
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Once you have the macaroni cooked and drained, place in a large bowl and while still hot and add the cheddar. In a separate bowl, combine the remaining ingredients and add to the macaroni mixture. Pour macaroni mixture into a casserole dish and bake for 30 to 45 minutes. Top with additional cheese if desired.
